LinkedIn endorsements might not be the first thing on your mind when you think about optimizing your LinkedIn profile but don’t underestimate them.

If you leverage them well, they can be pretty powerful.

The issue?

They take some bandwidth to write.

In this guide, we take a look at how you can craft amazing LinkedIn endorsements with ChatGPT and engage with your network in a natural way.

Understanding the Role of LinkedIn Endorsements

LinkedIn endorsements serve a vital role as they show prospective clients or employers social proof of your capabilities.

Think of them as reviews about how you work that you can show off on your profile.

Given their personal nature, they can also serve as a great way to reconnect with other people as they give you an excuse to start a conversation. It’s a legitimate reason to start a conversation.

We always advise that you give out as many endorsements as you can because it helps you stay active in your network and demonstrates that you’re someone that’s willing to help other people.

But beyond that, it also activates the rule of reciprocation.

It’s more highly likely that a colleague who’s received an endorsement from you will endorse you as well, increasing the number of endorsements that you have.

Endorsements on LinkedIn are a win-win-win for the person being endorsed, the person doing the endorsing, and the community as a whole because it fosters a collaborative environment on LinkedIn.

The more “reviews” we have about other people, the easier it is for people to get to know each other.

A lot of people dismiss the need for LinkedIn endorsements because they appear at the end of the profile, but we beg to disagree.

For people who have reached the end of the profile they are viewing, they serve as the secret sauce because they underscore and highlight the profile owner’s talents. Plus, if they’ve reached the end of a LinkedIn profile this tells you that they are very interested, and the endorsements could serve as a tipping point for them to connect.

The Problem with Writing LinkedIn Endorsements (And, a Possible Solution)

Let’s face it.

Writing endorsements can be challenging given that they require a lot of thought and reflection.

Plus, if you’re already going to put in the effort to praise someone about their skills, the endorsement has to reaffirm what they talk about in their profile – which can easily make a simple review complicated.

So, here’s our system.

First of all, you want to identify to who you want to give endorsements. We generally recommend just giving them out regularly, maybe once a week to get the ball rolling.

You could start by reaching out to your former colleagues, favorite clients, and past employees.

After getting a few out, you can start prioritizing people you want to start a natural conversation with.

Whatever you do, don’t endorse everyone at the same time. People can also see the recommendations you’ve given and you don’t want to look like you’re running a content mill.

What you’re after is restarting conversations and getting some endorsements along your way.

How to Use ChatGPT to Write LinkedIn Endorsements

When writing out LinkedIn endorsements with ChatGPT, we use a relatively simple prompt.

This is what it looks like:

I am a *what do you do for a living* for *organization that you work for*

Help me write a LinkedIn endorsement for *first name of the person you’re endorsing*

Details of our relationship:

– *Where you both worked*

– *your relationship with each other*

– *achievement of the person in the organization or professional qualities of the person*

– *personal qualities of the person*

– *optional: quick anecdote/fun fact from your time together*

For context:

This their LinkedIn headline: *their LinkedIn headline*

This is their LinkedIn profile summary:  *their LinkedIn summary*

The tone has to be  *tone to be used*, limited to 100 words [you can change this], reference some of the context.

Now let’s break this down for you.

I am a *what do you do for a living* for *organization that you work for*

Always give ChatGPT context of who it is writing for, this helps it determine tone and voice.

Help me write a LinkedIn endorsement for *first name of the person you’re endorsing*

Be clear about what the task is and add a detail they have to mention. Going for the first name basis establishes that you have a personal connection with a person you are endorsing.

Details of our relationship:

– *Where you both worked*

– *your relationship with each other*

– *achievement of the person in the organization or professional qualities of the person*

– *personal qualities of the person*

– *optional: quick anecdote/fun fact from your time together*

Now build some context for the bot to work its magic. Notice we added an optional part of the prompt? This makes it sounds more personal. Feel free to skip this for extremely professional endorsements.

For context:

This their LinkedIn headline: *their LinkedIn headline*

This is their LinkedIn profile summary:  *their LinkedIn summary*

We threw in this part as a little praise for the person’s other achievements, this shows the person you pay attention to their professional life outside of the time you’ve worked together.

We instructed it to use their LinkedIn details to make things easier for you.

The tone has to be  *tone to be used*, limited to 100 words [you can change this], reference some of the context.

Lastly, you want to add your limitations.

Never forget this part, lest you want ChatGPT to go off track.

The ChatGPT Prompt for LinkedIn Endorsements in Action!

And this is the response we got.

It doesn’t fully reference the context, but if you change the number of words to about 130, that’s when you can experience its full power.

Now, if you really want to take this to the next level, you can either regenerate ChatGPT’s responses or get it to pull up a couple more for you.

Takeaways

Creating LinkedIn endorsements with ChatGPT can only take you so far.

You still need to jump in and make your own personal tweaks to make sure that you’re still connecting with the person you’re endorsing in a genuine way.

This is why we highly advise you not just to tweak the prompt, but also the output.

However, bear this in mind.

If you find that in the middle of prompt generation, you want to write an original one, then, by all means, go for it.

You can still use ChatGPT at the end of your original endorsement to check for grammar and correct tone.

Remember, it’s just a tool, and it’s only as good as its user.
